Hospitals in Samoa, including the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital in Moto’otua are still relying on oxygen supplies from American Samoa.
The oxygen plants in Upolu and Savaii are still down with no word as to when they will be operational again.
Last month, the Ministry of Health had to use the Samoa Police patrol boat Nafanua III to help get oxygen tanks from American Samoa after the oxygen plant had broken down.
Medical staff are hoping that the oxygen plant will be restored in the coming days.
They said they feared that if supplies are not replenished on time, a shortage could occur.
Earlier last month, the MV Lady Samoa brought 120 oxygen tanks from Pago Pago for the National Hospital and later the Samoa Police patrol boat Nafanua III made an urgent trip to pick up an additional 120 oxygen cylinders.
