The Department of Public Safety has received 20 first aid kits from the Australian Federal Police.

Commissioner of Public Safety Taaga Saite Moliga says the first aid kits are a welcome gift and signifies the close working relationship that DPS has maintained with the Australia Federal Police. The kits will be placed in the substations and also in police vehicles as police are usually the first to arrive at the scene of accidents and other emergencies.

Commissioner Taaga says next month a police officer will travel to Australia to participate in a forensics training conducted by the Australia Police Force. He said DPS is grateful for the assistance provided by the AFP to help build capacity of local police officers.

Four police officers are currently attending a similar forensics training conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Virginia.

The Commissioner also announced that DPS holiday enforcement will begin December 19 up to January 3rd.

Taaga says the roadblocks will check for inebriated drivers and will move around depending on where there’s heavy traffic.

For the past several years the roadblock has been stationary in front of CBT in Nu’uuli.

The Commissioner urged that those planning to celebrate the holidays with liquid of the alcohol variety designate a driver or call the police station if they need help getting home.
