Samoan man faces attempted murder charge in Hawaii

Forty-three-year-old Ishmael Piula Luavasa has been charged with second degree attempted murder for the fatal assault of a man visiting Honolulu last Saturday.

The 50-year-old man victim was attacked in front of the Waikiki Beachside Hostel on Saturday, November 8.

As a result of the beating, the man sustained severe head injuries and was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on November 12.

This attempted murder investigation has since been reclassified as a second-degree murder case.

Luavasa is currently being held without bail.

If he is convicted as charged, he could be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
