Samoa Airways is to acquire two jet aircraft by this time next year.

Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt told media that plans have been prepared for the purchase of two new jet planes

He said he called meetings with former Samoa Airways pilots now resident in New Zealand, led by former senior Captain Li’o Eti Laulala, and they are all in agreement with the airline acquiring two jet aircraft.

La’auli said he has written submissions from the former pilots advising the types of aircraft, and he will be sharing these with Cabinet and the Board of Samoa Airways.

According to the PM, the airline will be looking at utilizing all international routes available including the Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, and mainland U.S. routes, which he says will necessitate two planes.

“I have also urged these former pilots to return and work on the national airline,” he said.

He also urged Samoans to be prepared to buy shares in the country’s national flag carrier.

During the campaign for the recent general elections, La’auli said FAST would be selling $500 tālā shares for the airline.

“Time to get your money ready to help us pay for the new planes,” he said.
