Mixed reports on palolo rise for November

There are mixed reports of the palolo catch on Tuesday night.

Tisa Faamuli reports that Alega Bay was full of die-hard palolo hunters that night, but the rise was weak and the seaworm dissolved quickly.

“There was a moment when a lot of palolo washed in with semi-strong currents, but the palolo quickly melted,” said Tisa.

The palolo fishers were able to get small cups of palolo from their efforts.

KHJ News received reports that those who were on boats were richly rewarded with an abundant catch.

Reports from Manu’a say there was also a good catch on Tuesday night, but not as plentiful as it was last month.

Manu’atele Community Worldwide shared with KHJ News that villagers checked for palolo on Monday and Tuesday nights, and there was a good catch on Tuesday night; however, it wasn’t several coolers full like it was in October. Because the tide was receding, people ended up hunting for alili and other seafood delicacies.

“Most families in Manu’a are still enjoying what they harvested in October, and nobody here is selling palolo the way they do in Tutuila. We usually save ours for families in Tutuila and for relatives in the U.S. mainland,” said our Manu’a correspondent.
