The territory paid tribute to veterans of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces at the 2025 Veterans Day celebration at the Veterans Monument Field on Tuesday.
Leaders from the three branches of government — the Governor, Lt. Governor, Chief Justice Lealaialoa Michael Kruse, Senators and Representatives, and Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata — attended the ceremony, which opened with a prayer by veteran Rev. Timoteo Esekia Ulugalu.
U.S. Army veteran Leivifiloa Mariota Tuiasosopo’s rich baritone voice filled the air when he sang “Star Spangled Banner” and “Amerika Samoa” acapella.

As the song of each branch of the Armed Forces were played while their flags were hoisted, veterans — some in uniform — stood up with pride to salute: the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard.
A moving part of the ceremony was recognition of Gold Star families, family members of military service members who died in the line of duty.
Before delivering his first Veterans Day address as chief executive, Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of CSM Uluolegalu Paueli Satele, who passed away last Thursday. He had come to the territory to take care of a sick brother, whom he took to Hawaii, then returned here and participated in the Toa Samoa games.
The Governor spoke about the theme of the 2025 Veterans Day, “To Honor All Who Served,” and said military service was part of the fabric of American Samoa.
