Last Friday, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the headquarters of the Department of Search and Rescue, Avamua Dave Haleck, on behalf of Haleck Enterprises, Tradewinds Hotel, and the Haleck family, presented a brand-new fire truck to the department.
The cost of the fire truck, including transportation and excise taxes, was close to $80,000.
Avamua explained that after fires destroyed homes and commercial buildings in the Tuala-uta area, he began searching for a fire truck to be stationed in Tafuna to serve the Tuala-uta area up to the western end of the island.
He noted that since the fire trucks had to come from the Fagatogo fire station, by the time they reached fires on the west side, the buildings have burned to the ground.
Avamua said the tradition of giving continues the legacy of his grandfather, Makisi Haleck, who donated motorcycles to the Department of Public Safety, and over the years, his Haleck cousins have donated to the hospital and other community causes.
Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula issued the following statement of appreciation for the generous gift.
“On behalf of Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr., the American Samoa Government, and the people of our Territory, I extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Avamua Asi-Galumalemana David O. Haleck, Haleck Enterprises, Tradewinds Hotel, and the entire Haleck family for their exceptional generosity in donating a fire truck to the Department of Search and Rescue.
For generations, the Haleck family has exemplified service, leadership, and compassion throughout American Samoa. Their unwavering dedication to the welfare of our community reflects the highest values of generosity and humility that define our people. This remarkable contribution will significantly enhance our emergency response capabilities and our capacity to protect and serve our citizens in times of need.
“This generous gift stands as a powerful testament to the spirit of giving and community solidarity that strengthens American Samoa.
“The Haleck family’s continued support serves as an inspiring example for others to follow, demonstrating the profound impact that comes from investing in the safety and well-being of our people. Fa’afetai tele lava for your dedicated support and enduring love for our people. May God continue to bless you, your family, and your enterprises abundantly.”
