The Samoa Ministry of Health has upped the ante on preventative measures against dengue fever as it also grapples with the alarming rise in influenza cases.

TV1Samoa reports acting Director General of Health Tagaloa Dr. Robert Thompsen saying that Influenza 1 is the main cause of alarm.

“It’s been around for some time now, and the main remedy is get plenty of rest, …[drink] lots of water, and [take] Panadol,” he said.

He added that influenza has been around since 2024 and is now the main cause of increased patient numbers at the hospitals around the country.

Tagaloa also warned of an increase in dengue cases being treated at hospitals.

According to a Ministry Of Health report on October 26, 320 dengue cases had been confirmed, with 16 admitted to hospital, though none required intensive care.
