
American Samoa’s Basic Food Index for October dropped 0.8% compared to September.
The biggest drop was in the price of eggs which dropped 21.6%. A small dozen of Nulaid eggs cost $3.88 in September; last month, the price dropped to $3.04/doz.
The price of chicken dropped 1.7%. A 10-kilogram case of chicken legs was $19.31 in September; last month the price was $18.99.
Other food prices which dropped were milk (-1.6%), rice (-1.4%), sugar (-1.3%), ice cream (-1.2%), mayonnaise (-0.8%), and tuna (-0.8%).
Food commodities whose prices increased include saimin (up 3.4%), bananas (up 2.5%), turkey tails (up 2.5%), pork spare ribs (up 2.1%), taro (up 2.1%), corned beef (up 1%), butter (up 0.6%), fish (up 0.4%), and bread (up 0.3%).
Food items whose prices did not change include soda, sausage, and water.
