On Saturday, October 18, the Agency for Better Living Endeavors (ABLE) Moso’oi team hosted the third event in the line-up for the 2025 Mosooi Festival of Arts & Humanities—Moso’oi Speaks—a platform to highlight written and spoken arts.
Held at the American Samoa Community College Multi-purpose Center, it was an unforgettable evening celebrating the power of words, art, and storytelling.
Featuring an incredible lineup of 22 local artists, as young as 13, the event showcased a vibrant mix of poetry reading, slam poetry, spoken word, original songs, and Samoan poetry.
Peseta Tialuga Sunia Seloti, a renowned educator, author, poet, and cultural practitioner was among the performers.
The night’s guest speaker, Tamiano Gurr, shared his reflections on creativity, culture, and the importance of nurturing young voices in the arts. Tamiano said, “Nights like tonight matter because it gives our creatives a space that we don’t always get throughout the year, and reminds us that the arts are not new to us – our Samoan people have always been artists. We spoke our history before ever writing it down.”
Marcella Fitisone, Mosooi Speaks lead commented, “It was so much more than just a show, Moso’oi Speaks proved to be a celebration of culture, community, and the enduring beauty of storytelling in all its forms. We want to continue to provide platforms as such to celebrate all artists.”
