Senate approves Douglas Buhr for ASPA Board

By a vote of 10 to 2 Senators approved Thursday the Governor’s nomination of Mr Douglas Buhr as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Samoa Power Authority.

Buhr is the expert engineer and one of the two off-island members of the Board. He is the President and Principal Engineer of Douglas Engineering Pacific Inc in Hawaii and has over 42 years of experience in the electrical industry.

He has worked on local projects with ASPA including the Malaloa Pump Station, the ASCC Multi Purpose Center, and assessment of damages to the Satala Power Plant after the 2009 tsunami which helped settle ASPA’s insurance claim with Lloyds of London.

The House of representatives held a confirmation hearing Thursday morning for Buhr, and the other nominees for the ASPA Board: Talaimalo Marcellus Uiagalelei and Talaalemalo Tasi Mauga, and the confirmation vote is expected friday.

Uiagalelei and Mauga have already been approved by the Senate. The 4th board nominee Folasa Galeai who is based in Hawaii where he is a mechanic for Hawaiian Airlines, was unable to attend the confirmation hearings.
