Dengue fever cases down 25% in Samoa

The number of dengue fever cases in Samoa has dropped by 25 percent since the first week of September.

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, a total of 10,982 clinically diagnosed cases have been recorded, of which 3,379 are dengue “lab-confirmed” cases.

Dengue cases dropped to 1,307 clinically diagnosed cases reported from all health facilities in Upolu and Savai’i, including the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital with 315 cases.

The reports also showed that the number of fatalities remained at six.

Of all cases reported, 86 percent were from Upolu with 53 percent among males and 47 percent female.

New dengue admissions decreased by 14 percent compared to the previous week, with 184 new admissions reported from all health facilities in Upolu and Savai’i.

The report also showed that of those admitted, 129 were discharged, 55 are still in hospital, with no cases admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
