
The Governor has submitted to the Fono for confirmation three new members to the Board of Trustees of the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund.
They are Faoa Aitofele Sunia, Dr. Jean Hollister-Mareko, and Peter Benjamin Crispin.
Faoa, an attorney by profession, is a former Lt. Governor, former ASG Treasurer, former Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau, and former District Court judge. According to his resumer submitted to the Fono, he is currently a legal counsel to the Lt. Governor.
Dr. Jean Hollister-Mareko, an educator, held various positions in the Department of Education from 1996 to 2007 and was an instructor at the American Samoa Community College from 2007 to 2016.
Mr. Peter Crispin owns several businesses in the territory, including Tool Shop, Industrial Gases Inc., and Pago Pago Marine Charters.
Faoa is to serve until July 2030, Dr. Hollister-Mareko’s term expires in July of 2028, while Mr. Crispin’s term ends in July of next year.
The Governor said in his letter to the Fono leaders, “After reviewing the recommendation of the Retirement Fund Board Chairman to reappoint the members of the Board whose terms have expired, I have decided to appoint new members to serve on the board.”
His letter does not name which board members the three new trustees would replace.
Other than the Board Chairman, Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean, the other trustees who were active on the board as of June were Toloai Ho Ching, Tony Tagoai, and Loa Tuimavave Laupola.
