A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday at the site where the LBJ Tropical Medical Center is building its first-ever warehouse facility at Lions Park.

LBJ Chaplain Rev. Tumau Petaia offered the invocation, which was attended by Fono leaders, lawmakers, directors, and members of the LBJ Hospital Board.

Lt. Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. spoke on behalf of the government, expressing deep gratitude to LBJ for its continued service to the people of American Samoa.

He praised the hospital’s hardworking staff and shared a story from a recent visit, emphasizing the importance of advancing medical equipment and maintaining momentum for our island and the future of American Samoa—the children.

LBJ CEO Scott Anesi announced that this new warehouse will be the first of its kind in the hospital’s history.

He commended the collaborative effort behind the project, thanking Department of Commerce, Director Ali’imuamua Magdalene Petaia, ARPA Director Puiali’i John James Faumuina, the contractor Lumana’i Builders, and the LBJ Hospital Board for their roles in bringing the vision to fruition.

Anesi explained that the facility will ease logistical strain at the hospital by serving as a supply hub for both central and western regions of the island. It will also support medical needs for travelers in the event of an emergency, offering streamlined support for critical supplies. He applauded LBJ’s staff for their dedication and resilience, noting that this project reflects a broader commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure across American Samoa.
