Flags in the territory were lowered Friday until Sunday as a tribute to Charlie Kirk, who was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University, Utah on Thursday.

Governor Pula’ali’i Nikolao Pula said, “It is with deep sorrow that we note the tragic passing of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative public figure, media personality, and co-founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot while speaking at an event in Utah.

“Mr. Kirk’s life and work had a considerable impact on civic engagement, particularly among young Americans, and he is mourned by many.

“Pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation issued by President Donald J. Trump, all flags of the United States and American Samoa shall be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset on Sunday, September 14, 2025, as a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk.

“As we lower the flags, let us also pause for a moment of silence and reflection, keeping Mr. Kirk’s family, friends, and countless supporters in our thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning.”
