Samoa Airways has declared a $1 million tālā dividend for the year ending June 30, 2025, marking a dramatic turnaround following a provisional profit after-tax of $11 million tālā for the year.

According to the Samoa Observer, the national airline said the transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

Equity has swung by $87 million tālā, shifting from a negative $54 million tālā in June 2022 to a positive $33 million tālā in June 2025.

Company debt has been slashed by $70 million tālā, falling from $80 million tālā to just $10 million tālā over the same period.

However, the $87 million tālā of profits and improvements in equity were achieved through a $66 million tālā assistance from the government—including a $55 million tālā write-off of the UTOS loan and $11 million tālā direct assistance to pay off other old debts.

“Full credit must go first and foremost to our shareholders for their steadfast leadership and support, and equally to our valued customers, whose loyalty and confidence have been instrumental in making this success possible,” said Interim Managing Director and CEO, Taua Fatu Tielu.

In addition to returning value to its shareholders, Samoa Airways confirmed that part of the profits will be reinvested in maintaining and upgrading its fleet.

The second Twin Otter will be sent to Canada for a $10 million tālā refit, with an expected return in February 2026.
