Sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents are expected tonight as a result of an 8.7 magnitude earthquake, which occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, today.

The National Weather Service issued a tsunami advisory for American Samoa around 3 this afternoon.

An advisory means strong currents and waves may be dangerous to those in or very near the water.

Meteorologist-in-Charge at the National Weather Service, Elinor McMoore Lutu, explains what residents should watch out for.
