The Governor’s choice for Director of Parks and Recreation, Tapusalaia Maneafaiga, did not pass confirmation in the House of Representatives Friday.

He needed 11 votes to pass; however, only seven representatives voted in support of his confirmation, while five voted against. Nine representatives were absent from Friday’s session.

Rep. Fiu Johnny Saelua moved a motion for reconsideration, which was approved.

This allows a second House vote on the director nominee at a later time.

Tapusalaia was approved by the Senate earlier this week by a vote of 14-2.
