The ASG Office of Veterans Affairs continues to expand services for local veterans and their families.

One service that the VA Office is promoting is a community-based suicide prevention program, funded with a grant awarded to the office three years ago.

Program Manager Faamasino Galoia says this program offers non-clinical support for veterans and their dependents to help prevent thoughts of suicide.

A reopening of the Suicide Prevention Program is planned for July 11 at the Veterans Memorial Center.

The Office of Veterans Affairs is also promoting events planned for the Fourth of July. This includes a swap meet on Thursday, July 3, from 4 to 9:30 p.m. and on Friday, July 4, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Monument. There will also be a food court, bounce house, and games for the children, as well as a volleyball and pool tournament to celebrate Independence Day.
