The Jr. Prep Sports Amerika Samoa (JPSAS) Measina Girls Volleyball Club made their mark this past week in Phoenix, Arizona, at the 2025 Arizona Summer Volleyball Festival.
The team, comprised of 10 girls from the various local high schools, ranging from the ages of 13 to 16, competed in the 15-16 Classic Division with 47 other teams. They played nine matches from June 26 to 28, wining seven—qualifying them for the Championship Bracket on June 29.
On the final day of competition, in the quarterfinals, the Measina Girls defeated a team from Utah in two straight sets. In the semifinals, they went up against Shanghai, a team from China they had lost to in Pool Play on the first day. The match went to three sets, with Measina winning the final set 15-13. It was a thriller!
Then came the Championship match against a team from Idaho. The Measina Girls fought hard—losing the first set 23-25, winning the second set 25-18, but narrowly losing the third set 12-15. It was a game to remember!
JPSAS is incredibly proud of these young ladies and their coaches. “They accomplished the unthinkable. Their hard work, commitment, and perseverance these last few months of training and practices are notable. There is no doubt that each of them have a future in college volleyball.”
JPSAS thanks Coaches Lydia Faleafine-Nomura, her daughters Mydori and Lelalelei Nomura, and Malinah Purcell-Telefoni for their dedication to the girls and to the sport of volleyball. Thanks also go to the parents of these young ladies, who sacrificed their time and finances, and to all those who contributed money or in-kind support to make the trip possible—as well as to the families and friends who assisted the team in Hawaii and Arizona.
