The American Samoa Department of Health now owns the Haleck’s Enterprises, Ottoville Professional Building, formerly the Argosy Building.
The purchase of the two-story building was completed last Thursday.
Vesi Fautanu Jr. of the Department of Health said that total cost of the building was $9.5 million and was financed with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. He told KHJ News that when negotiations for the purchase of the building first began under the previous administration, the original price for the building and the land was about $18 million.
The Ottoville Professional Building was dedicated on April 25, 2018, and was the campus of Argosy University.
It will become the headquarters of the Department of Health and will house all administration divisions of the department.
Vesi noted that some renovations are needed before the building officially opens under DOH.
This is the second building the government has purchased from Haleck Enterprises.
The first was the Department of Homeland Security compound, located across the street.
