Installation of playground equipment at Lions Park is now underway and should be in use in three months’ time.

Acting Director of Parks and Recreation Tapusalaia Maneafaiga said the contractor, Vailuu & Sons, is installing the swings, slides, and other playground equipment that arrived in the territory more than a year ago. He said the contractor has 90 days to complete the project.

During the gubernatorial campaign season last year, large billboard announcing playgrounds “coming soon” were displayed at several public parks.

Maneafaiga said the playground equipment has been at Parks and Recreation for more than a year, awaiting funds from the Land and Water Fund for installation.

In April, a group of Good Samaritans led by Timothy Teleso fixed the broken swings at Lions Park using parts that they ordered themselves.

Maneafaiga said they’re beginning installation of playgroup equipment for Onesosopo Park. That work is being carried out by Hudson Construction.

Parks and Recreation hopes to start on the playgrounds for Pago Pago and Fagatogo after the Onesosopo playground is completed.
