Local students win awards at National History Day Competition

Students from American Samoa received awards at the National History Day Competition held in Maryland, June 8-12. The High school Division had students from Tafuna High School and Manumalo Academy, while students from Manumalo Academy and Samoa Baptist competed in the Elementary Division.

Special Awards were won by Gyupin Kim and Rachel Park for their Group Exhibit on World War II, Stolen Lives: The Comfort Women.

An Outstanding Entry Award was won by Nuri Pyo in the Junior Individual Website; and another special award was presented to Estherniva Palu, Grace MaWong and Katherina Palu, for the Group Performance Senior Division.

Participation Awards were presented to Graceson Ulu-Individual Performance Junior Division, Aryanna Fruean-Individual Documentary, Junior Division and Myron Faimalo-Senior Division Documentary.
