China has presented a $5 million agricultural mechanization package to Samoa.
Receiving the 21 heavy machinery units, Samoa Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa said. “The project directly addresses one of our most persistent challenges. The difficulty of land preparation in our rocky, heavily vegetated terrain.”
She added that with this modern equipment, “we can bring more land into productive use, increase efficiency and ultimately improve food security for our nation.”
China’s assistance includes five excavators, six tractor systems, and ten dump trucks of varying capacities. It also includes a fully equipped maintenance workshop and six Chinese agricultural engineers who will conduct an intensive three-month training program for Samoan technicians and farmers.
The new equipment will be managed under the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, with the Samoa government committing additional resources to establish permanent maintenance facilities.
