Four high school graduates of Tongan descent are able to pursue higher education at the American Samoa Community College with scholarships from the Tongan Market Corporation LTD Scholarship Program.
The scholarship program was established in 2022 and has awarded ten scholarships over the past three years, empowering students of Tongan descent to further their education and reach their full potential.
This year’s scholarship recipients are all from Tafuna High School:
- Veiongo Lotulelei
- Talanoa Tupou
- Pisilaula Tuia
- Anau Moli all of Tafuna High School.
Taimalelagi Dr. Claire Tuia Poumele, Steering Committee Chairwoman, said, “We are incredibly proud to support these outstanding students. We are confident they will continue to make a positive impact in our community and beyond.”
She added that these scholarships would not be possible without the unwavering support and dedication of educators and school staff.
The committee extends heartfelt appreciation to the teachers, counselors and administrators “who work tirelessly to guide, mentor and inspire students every day.”
It also acknowledges the Principal of Tafuna High School, Mrs. Tutuila Togilau, for encouraging all students to pursue a higher education, and the Senior Counselor, Leuatea Temese, for the letters of recommendation.
The committee also thanks the community for their support of the Tongan Market, which helps to preserve agricultural traditions, promote food security, and sustain the vital work of farmers.
