The Department of Legal Affairs has launched an updated website, which has been streamlined for easier navigation.

The site also includes clear, step-by-step instructions for travel and entry into American Samoa.

An announcement from the Attorney General’s Office explains that there are currently three types of visitor permits available:

  1. Samoa 10-Day Visitor Permit – For Samoan-born citizens only.
  2. US Visa 30-Day Visitor Permit – For visitors holding a valid U.S. visa or from a U.S. Visa Waiver Program country. These two permits are available for online filing and payment. Please note that these permits cannot be extended.
  3. Other 30-Day Visitor Permit – For visitors who do not qualify for the Samoa 10 day visitor permit or the US Visa-30 day visitor permit, or for travelers who may plan to extend their stay. A one-time extension is permitted for 30 days.

This permit must be applied for in person at the Immigration Office. Requirements include, but are not limited to, having a qualified local sponsor, verification of landowner consent, and a police clearance from the visitor’s country of origin.

Entry into American Samoa under a visitor permit is limited to vacation, family visits, business purposes and other similar reasons. However, employment is strictly prohibited, and any violation may subject both the employer and employee to criminal prosecution and fines.

For more information or to begin the visitor permit application process, please visit the updated website at legalaffairs.as.gov.
