Governor Pulaali‘i Nikolao Pula inspected four public schools in Ta‘ū, Manu’a last week while attending the graduation for Manu’s High School.
The Governor visited Manu‘a High School, the Consolidated School, Faleasao Elementary, and Fitiuta Elementary. The visit followed an earlier site assessment in April, conducted by the Director of Education and her team, alongside the Governor’s Executive Advisor for Education.
A press release from the Governor’s Office said Governor Pulaali’i walked each campus and held discussions with school leaders to better understand their immediate needs and long-standing challenges.
At Manu’a High School, he inspected the JROTC building, where ongoing roof leaks are impacting the facility.
At Faleasao Elementary, he noted structural cracks and safety concerns, emphasizing the urgency of moving operations to the new Consolidated School.
At Fitiuta Elementary, the Governor reviewed progress on the multipurpose facility currently under construction and listened to concerns about the need to upgrade kitchen facilities.
Progress has been made at the Manu’a Consolidated School since the April visit, but Governor Pulaali’i acknowledged that critical work remains before it can open for the upcoming school year. He expressed concern and urgency in seeing the new school opened, stating that “a safe facility is essential to supporting student achievement and well-being.”
The Governor also addressed the prolonged timeline for completion of the Consolidated School, which has taken six years. While recognizing the long-standing nature of the issues, he assured school leaders that their administration is committed to working closely with the Department of Education to overcome these obstacles.
Governor Pula’ali’i said, “I want the people of Manu’a to know that we hear you, and we are taking action.
“The future of our children depends on the strength of our schools, and we are focused on delivering the support they deserve.”
