
Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula spoke about the essential role of service in society and the valuable contributions of women in leadership and community engagement at a luncheon hosted by the Pacific Center for Human Security, celebrating the strength and nobility of women.
The Governor conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the government, thanking the center for providing a platform to acknowledge and honor the dedication of women in shaping communities.
First Lady Lois Phillips-Pula emphasized how various platforms—and the unwavering support of committed partners—enable women to safeguard traditions and pass them on to future generations.
In attendance were members of the Nafanua Foundation, a leadership development program for young women in Samoan communities in the U.S. mainland.
Katrina Helsham, Communications Manager of the Pacific Center for Human Security, shared the mission and vision of the organization.
Gwendolyn Tuaitanu, Executive Director of Nafanua Foundation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to local partners for their belief in the mission and in the ability of youth to raise awareness about mental health and cultural preservation through outreach initiatives.
Representatives from the Department of Health – Le Leo o Aiga, Territorial Bank of American Samoa, and Tautua Samoa Mental Health Resource Center were also in attendance.
Tapumanaia Galu Satele, Director of Women and Youth Affairs, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Governor. He reiterated the Department of Women and Youth Affairs’ commitment to strengthening families and the values that shape society, and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering initiatives that empower individuals and preserve cultural traditions.
