
A church service on Sunday at the Aua CCCAS opened National Public Works Week in the territory.
Governor Pula’ali’i Nikolao Pula, in his keynote address at the service, honored the department’s unwavering commitment to building and maintaining the territory’s infrastructure.
“The Department of Public Works is the backbone of progress in our territory,” he said. “They ensure our roads are passable, our buildings are safe, and our environment is protected. They are often unseen, but never unimportant.”
The Governor also highlighted this year’s national theme: “People, Purpose, and Presence.”
- People symbolize the committed professionals who serve with integrity and
compassion. - Purpose represents the mission that drives them to build and sustain the foundation of American Samoa’s future.
- Presence reflects the quiet but powerful role Public Works plays in ensuring safety, access, and opportunity for all.
Speaking on behalf of he and Lt. Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. who’s currently off island, Governor Pula’ali’i noted that while much has been accomplished, much remains to be done.
He reiterated his and the Lt. Governor’s continued support for the department in fulfilling its mission of service to the territory.
Reverend Viliamu Leilua who led the service encouraged DPW employees to remain steadfast in their calling.
“You are serving your people and your God, ” he said, urging them to rely on faith in all circumstances.
Director of Public Works, Punaofo Taeaotui Tilei, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor and Lt. Governor for their leadership and support.
He said, “Their vision for American Samoa inspires our department to press forward in delivering essential services and infrastructure improvements across the territory.”
DPW held a wave Monday, on Tuesday they cleaned up from the old Hong Kong Restaurant to Lions Park. and then held a field day. Thursday is their banquet and Fiafia night at Lee Auditorium and the week concludes Friday with a Division Celebration Day.
