The Department of Public Works has issued a notice to proceed to Paramount Builders to carry out repairs to the Fagaima-Ottoville road.
Deputy Director of Public Works Falava’i Taase says the work will be carried out on an emergency basis because of the very bad condition of the road. Public Works was able to fill in washed out sections of the road late last week.
Manager of the Civil Highway Division Alofa Tanuvasa led a walk through of the Faga’ima road Monday morning with officials of Paramount Builders, at which Tuala-uta lawmaker Larry Sanitoa was present.
Taase said Paramount Builders has agreed to carry out asphalt paving of the worst affected parts of the road immediately. On Monday morning, the company had mobilized equipment and materials to start the repair work.
According to Taase, McConnell Dowell and Silva Group can also provide asphalt, however, Paramount is able to start on the repairs right away while the documentation for the project is being processed.
He said the Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office has given the go-ahead for the project to proceed on an emergency basis.
