Leone High School dedicates new administration building

A new administration building for Leone High School was dedicated Thursday.

Nana’s Construction was the contractor for the $1.4 million project funded through the Department of Education’s ARPA allocation. Construction started in October 2023 and was completed this month.

School Principal Dr. Patrick Danielson welcomed guests, which included Governor Pula’ali’i Nikolao Pula, religious leaders, lawmakers, directors and Mrs. Fiapaipai Fruean, president of Nana’s Construction.

Father Ralph Solomona of the Catholic Church in Malaeloa offered prayers and blessed the new building.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony Governor Pulaali’i expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the project. The new building, he said, would serve as a hub for Leone High School’s administrative functions.

The Governor emphasized that such infrastructure investments benefit not only the students, but also the faculty, staff, and the broader community.

He extended his appreciation to Nana’s Construction for their exceptional work, praising their commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities that meet the evolving needs of American Samoa. Director of Public works Taeaotui Punaofo Tilei presented the Certificate of Occupancy to DOE Director Maefau Dr. Mary Lauagaia Taufete’e.

The CEO of Nanas Construction Mrs. Fruean expressed gratitude to God for the
successful completion of the project and thanked the Governor and his administration for their trust and support in building critical infrastructure for the people of American Samoa.

DOE Director Maefau in her closing remarks, acknowledged the efforts of the previous administration in providing improved school facilities and reminded attendees that these projects are dedicated to the future of American Samoa’s children. She also extended her appreciation to Governor Pulaali’i and Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala for their steadfast support of the education system and congratulated Leone High School on their new administrative building.

Director Maefau had the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, officially opening the building.
