Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula will be joined by the Ulu o Tokelau, Esera Fofo Tuisano as Samoa’s special guests during the 63rd independence anniversary celebration.
Chairman of the Independence Committee, Agafili Shem Leo said the celebrations will start on Sunday, June, 1st with a church service at the Mulivai Cathedral led by the National Council of Churches (NCC).
The festivities will kick off on Monday June 2, which is declared a public holiday where schools, government ministries and other organizations will join in the march following the flag raising in front of the Fiame Mataafa Faumuina Mulinuu II building.
The change of venue for the celebration is due to ongoing construction in front of the Parliament House in Mulinuu.
The flag will be raised by one of the members of the Council of Deputies.
Agafili confirmed there will be no cultural celebration or other activities for this year, as the government reserves grand celebrations for milestone years like the 65th anniversary in 2027.
