Another federally funded program, intended to provide affordable, reliable, high speed internet service in the territory has been terminated.
This is the Digital Equity Act Program.
A public notice issued by the Acting Director of Commerce Uili Leauanae said that effective May 9, the Digital Equity Act has been officially terminated.
He said the decision was issued under the administration of President Trump and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and was communicated May 9 to broadband offices of states and territories by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, under the US Department of Commerce.
“Accordingly, all remaining grant funds associated with the Act will be returned to the federal government.”
The acting director said DOC will host a virtual meeting Friday, May 16, to answer questions from stakeholders.
It’s not known how much funding will be returned.
A press release issued in December last year said that in the first round of funding, ASG was approved for $2.1 million.
