Public schools were closed on Thursday because of bad weather. Director of Education Maefau Dr. Mary Lauagaia Taufetee issued an announcement after midnight Wednesday, announcing the school closure citing severe weather conditions including high winds, heavy rain, and high waves.

Teachers and school staff still have to report to their school sites and be there from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Principals were directed to implement remote learning so that the mandated days of instruction are met.

Several private schools also closed for the day.
