Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula has appointed Leonard Seumanutafa as the new Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office.

A May 2 memo from the Governor stated that Seumanutafa has 30 years of experience working for ASG, particularly as a key part of the leadership of the Criminal Justice Planning Agency, which has direct oversight of Department of Justice grant funding for several programs in the territory. He has also participated in and led several justice initiatives spanning numerous administrations, such as the Sexual Offender Registry Notification Act Compliance Program.

Seumanutafa replaces Taito Aliitasi Afuola-Mauga, who resigned from the position of Chief of Staff after just three months.

Seumanutafa had previously been announced as the Director of the Criminal Justice Planning Agency. At the last cabinet meeting, he led the session as Taito was reported to be sick. Reports were already circulating at the time that Seumanutafa would be named the new Chief of Staff.
