Samoa’s Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo has confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 14-year-old disabled girl was killed in Salepoua’e, Saleimoa, last Saturday morning.
The Samoa Observer reports the man is the uncle of the victim.
“He has already been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear on 5 May for his court appearance,” said Auapa’au.
Witnesses described the scene as “horrific” and “disturbing.”
The deceased was found behind the bathroom by younger members of her family who went to look for her.
The suspect—the uncle—was still at the home when police arrived on Saturday.
The deceased is a female with a physical disability who required assistance from family members to move around.
The teen had been left at home with the suspect and other younger children while the rest of the family went out for Sunday shopping.
Her body was found behind the bathroom, hidden under leaves and other materials.
