
Checks and cups for the Flag Day Fautasi Race, Cricket Competition and the cultural entertainment were presented at an awards ceremony at the Office of Samoan Affairs on Monday.
A total of $146,000 was spent on the prizes for the Fautasi Race which had a record 11 entries this year.
1. Aeto from Pago Pago – $25,000
2. Paepaeulupoo from Aua – $23,000
3. Manulele Tausala-Low Rider from Nu’uuli – $18,000
4. Matasaua from Manu’a – $16,000
5. Lupelele from Iliili – $14,000
6. Iseula o le Moana from Fagatogo – $12,000
7. Taema from Leone – $10,000
The four fautasi eliminated in the preliminary heats each received $7,000:
- Fealofani Samoa from Fagasa
- Manulele Tausala #2 from Nu’uuli
- Fale o Latia from Pavaiai
- Alao from Alao
A total of $106,000 was spent on prizes for the Flag Day Cricket Competition.
Men’s Division:
1. Sinapati from Tafuna – $12,000
2. Tama o le Lega from Poloa – $11,000
3. Tama Mosi’ula from Masefau – $10,000
4. Pisisami from Vaitogi – $9,000
The other teams in the competition: Alofau, Aoa and Auto were each awarded $2,000
Women’s Division:
1. Moamoaniua from Sailele – $12,000
2. Teine ole I’a from Fagasa – $11,000
3. Teine Sea’ula from Aoa – $10,000
4. Teine Fetu Afiafi from Fagaalu- $9,000
All other teams were presented $2,000:
- Auto Ace-Town
- Teine Fetu Sasa’e from Alao
- Teine o le Tuna’ula from Fagaitua
- Teine Malaeoletalu from Fagatogo
- Teine o le Mosooi Pala from Leone
- Teine Aloiafi from Masefau
- Metotisi Girls from Nuuli
- Pago Pago Aeto
The three church groups that entertained during Flag Day—the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. and the Methodist Church—were each presented $25,000.
