On April 11, 2025, the Alpha Eta Chapter of the Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) English Honor Society at ASCC held its third annual Literary Festival.

This year’s festival, titled “The Next Chapter,” was held at the MPC (ASCC) with an attentive audience comprised mostly of students, family, and friends, along with a few members of the ASCC faculty, administration, and staff.

The festival provided students with a platform to showcase original poetry, prose, and artwork drawn from the SKD literary journal of poetry, prose, and art titled Pacific Voices. The SKD compiles this journal during the fall semester each school year.

Performing original poetry on stage were:

  1. Devinity Savusa
  2. Faatele Toaitiiti
  3. Heavenly Tuaau
  4. Hosanna Tiumalu
  5. Medalene Paletaoga
  6. Melanie Paletaoga
  7. Misionare Feleti
  8. Moemamao Tuaau
  9. Naomi Faleafa
  10. Ruta Soliai
  11. Tauva Launiu
  12. Tia Nash-Cummings

In addition to the poetry presentations, an art exhibit was set up on the second floor of the MPC, featuring student artwork published in Pacific Voices.

Alpha Eta Chapter members and friends of the chapter included:

• Maryalice Ume
• Celestine Mao
• Fola Faaita
• Ruta Soliai
• Siaosi Lafitaga
• Jayme Mageo
• Zara Sahib
• Vaikevaha Fonohema
• Adonai Tinae

The art exhibit showcased approximately 40 paintings that highlighted culture, identity, and environmental themes. Many pieces featured motifs and designs inspired by both the marine and natural environments of the Pacific.

SKD Treasurer Faatele Toaitiiti reflected on the event: “What stood out tonight was how much talent our performers and artists showed on the stage as well as in the art exhibit. Being one of the MCs was a challenge, but I am grateful to our chapter members and our advisor for this memorable event!”

Chapter advisor Ruta’ Tauiliili-Mahuka is looking forward to hosting next year’s festival to showcase more original student poetry and artwork.
