The opening night of the Flag Day Performing Arts Festival Monday night featured lively and spirited performances by 12 church and youth groups, which was enjoyed by those who were at the Fagatogo malae and many more watching KVZK-TV’s live stream.
Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula and Lt. Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. were present to watch the performances, along with lawmakers, directors, and church ministers.
Rev. Kautoa Maloti of the CCCAS in Nua and Seetaga, who delivered the invocation, reminded the audience that as we celebrate Flag Day, we should also remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who was crucified for our salvation. He pointed out that when Jesus was tried, there was no justice, and none of the church leaders spoke up to defend him. “They forgot all the good works that Jesus did,” he said.
Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula said that American Samoa has enjoyed countless blessings because of the unending prayers offered by servants of God, and he extended his gratitude to them for their unfailing faith. He said the festival was a joyful celebration of the arts and culture of Samoa and he thanked all those who turned out for the festivities, and the performers. The Governor said that while the territory is beset with modern influences, we have maintained our culture, traditions and language which set us apart on the world stage.
