Feleti Barstow Public Library launches Bookmobile

The Feleti Barstow Public Library is on the move with the launch of its new bookmobile in a ceremony at Matafao Elementary School on Wednesday,.

Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula and First Lady Dr, Lois Phillips-Pula joined Department of Education officials and the library’s management and staff tp celebrate the launch with students and faculty of Matafao elementary.

Acting Territorial Librarian, Loring Faiivae, said the bookmobile’s launch was a major achievement for the Feleti Barstow Public Library, which helps fulfill the Library’s mission to promote information literacy across all communities in American Samoa by utilizing available resources to reach children where they are.

Mr. Faiivae also announced that Flag Day April 17, marks 25 years of service by the Feleti Barstow Public Library to the people of American Samoa. He extended heartfelt appreciation to the Governor and First Lady for their continued support and strong advocacy for education, literacy, and lifelong learning.

Governor Pulaalii shared his excitement for the new bookmobile, stating: “This vehicle is essentially a library on wheels—designed to bring books directly to your villages and make learning more accessible. It will travel throughout all of American Samoa, supporting education and literacy in every community.”

The Governor concluded by commending the Library’s initiative and underscoring the importance of ensuring that all children across the territory have access to quality learning opportunities through reading.

First Dr. Lady Lois Phillips-Pula had the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, officially launching the bookmobile into service. She and the Governor then read a story together for the students of Matafao Elementary.
