Travelers out of Samoa will pay $130 tālā more for air travel once the proposed departure tax and aviation security fee increases by the Samoa Airport Authority are confirmed.

Last week, SAA held public consultations for the proposed increases in departure tax from $65 tālā to $100 tālā, aviation security fee from $5 tālā to $100 tālā, parking fee from $5 tālā to $10 tālā, and new VIP terminal charges.

The departure tax and aviation security fee are added to the airline fares, which means that once confirmed an extra $130 tālā will be added to all airfares.

The Aviation Security Fee will increase from $5 tālā to $100 tālā, an increase of 1900%.

Entry to the new VIP Terminal will cost $100 tālā plus 15% VAGST.

The dramatic increases in parking and security fees also raised concerns among frequent flyers and airport businesses.

No date has been given as to when the new charges would become effective.
