
In response to the heavy weather we’re experiencing, Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. has directed the following actions to help ensure safety.
Beginning Wednesday, February 19, through Friday, February 21, government offices lacking power, or made unsafe, by current weather conditions may be closed or limit operations.
Supervisors are responsible for notifying employees regarding work safety.
The Acting Governor directed that ASG employees follow their regular assigned schedules. If unsafe conditions prohibit them from reporting to work, they should notify their supervisors.
The Governor’s Office will work with appropriate government agencies and update the response, if and when necessary.
“Please take precautions to make yourselves and your families secure, and join me in praying for everyone’s safety,” said Pulumataala.
The Emergency Operations Center reported a landslide Wednesday morning in Aoa, and one occurred in Seetaga in the afternoon. Crews were also called to clear debris that covered the main road from a landslide in Nu’uuli.
Director of the Department of Homeland Security Vaetagaloa Glenn Lefiti said they have relocated a family in Nu’uuli after their home was flooded.
Both Samoa Airways and Talofa Airways cancelled flights.
Harbor Master Pu’amavae Ah-Mai issued a notice Wednesday afternoon that due to the current and forecasted weather conditions, the Port of Pago Pago is closed until further notice.
There will be no sailing of the Lady Samoa, and the port call by the cruise ship Seven Seas Voyager scheduled for Thursday is cancelled.
The free tax filing service at the DYWA Center in Tafuna was cut short because several parts of the roof leaked.
StarKist Samoa cancelled its night shift for Wednesday, as well as, both, day and night shifts for Thursday due to the bad weather.
Employees have been told to listen out for notices on the work schedule for Friday.
