The distribution of free wheelchairs donated by the American Wheelchair Mission took place Saturday at the OMV Field.
The American Wheelchair Mission President Chris Lewis and some of the donors, including Dan Danielson and Kristi Danielson, and Joe and Lara Donaldson, were present as recipients turned up to pick up their wheelchairs.
Those receiving wheel chairs had already registered and screened at the community health centers.
Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin Finau leads the Project Saolotoga-Mobility, that is in charge of logistics and distribution of the wheelchairs here.

(Transc.) Finau: And some of the donors had arrived here, early last week, and we were able to go to Manila to visit our clients there as well. So a team of eight of our donors, and also those that are recording the information to show the donors that— that can’t come to Samoa will be with us. So is the American Wheelchair Mission partnership with Project Saolotoga-Mobility of American Samoa. And this is our fifth event in providing wheelchairs for our community. And the mission, has provided over a thousand wheelchairs since we started. I believe it was like 2012 or 2015, I can’t recall, but it’s been ongoing. Every two, three years. When the mission’s ready to provide us a container-full.
The total number of wheelchairs that have been donated is 280.
