
Samoa Police have confirmed that a 36-year-old male has died, and an 18-year-old female is fighting for her life at Motootua Hospital in a suspected intimate partner violence incident at Levi, Saleimoa.
According to Samoa Global News, police were called to the shootings at around 6pm, Wednesday evening.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said the man committed suicide after shooting the women, who is in critical condition at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital in Apia.
“The weapon is now with police. It as an unregistered 22 rifle.”
Police say the man and the woman are both from Levi, Saleimoa.
The Commissioner said investigations continue into this unfortunate incident, however, preliminary investigations have suggested that the pair were in an intimate partner relationship.
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is prevalent in Samoa, where over 80% of women report to have been abused by their intimate partners.
