Hawaiian Airlines Thursday flight from Honolulu was cancelled and travelers are being rebooked on the airline’s flights on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The cancellation was due to severe weather in Hawaii which caused widespread flooding, downed trees triggering power outages, forced many schools and businesses to close, and bringing inter-island flights to a halt.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi issued, Thursday, an emergency proclamation due to the strong low-pressure storm system that touched down on Oahu.

The proclamation provides the city with resources for emergency management and disaster relief.

Travelers on flights from the mainland intending to catch the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Pago Pago were routed to Maui. Because the cancellation was weather related, the airline was not obligated to offer accommodation or meals.

Travelers have been informed that they will be rebooked for the Monday and Tuesday flights to and from Pago Pago.
