The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) is rolling out today, December 17, 5G ultra coverage in key areas from Satala to Iliili.
A press release says this roll out will provide high-speed, reliable 5G Ultra coverage enhancing connectivity and enabling faster speeds, improved capacity for users, and real integration of IoT devices.
ASTCA says this launch marks the first phase of a comprehensive three-part expansion plan, which will eventually extend coverage to outer villages, Aunu’u, and the Manu’a Islands, with the final phase reaching Swains and Rose Atolls.
5G Ultra, an upgraded version of the initial 5G service launched on April 15, 2023, brings faster speeds, increased capacity, and reduced latency. This was made possible by ASTCA success fully acquiring the n41 spectrum through an FCC Auction, securing 15 licenses to enhance coverage across five counties. ASTCA thanks its partners for their vital support in deploying its 5G networks, made possible through ARPA funds and support from the Department of Commerce.
ASTCA CEO Chuck Leota stated, “Our 5G Ultra launch is a significant step forward for connectivity in American Samoa. We are committed to bridging the digital divide and bringing technologies to American Samoa that help our people live better and stay competitive with the outside world while ensuring our services remain affordable for everyone in American Samoa.”
He added that ASTCA’s 5G Ultra will show the true power of 5G.
ASTCA is introducing several promotions to make 5G Ultra accessible to all, including affordable 5G Ultra-capable devices, a trade-in program for existing devices, and free SIM swaps for compatible iPhone and Samsung S24 users. New 5G Ultra bundles will offer significantly more data at nearly the same cost as existing plans.
