The tropical cyclone (TC) season officially starts on November 1 and will last until April 30.
The National Weather Service says for the 2024-25 season, American Samoa can anticipate normal to below normal Tropical Cyclone activity influenced by the anticipated La Niña conditions.
Typically, American Samoa encounters 1 to 2 tropical cyclones in an average year. The NWS Pago Pago forecasts 1 to 2 tropical cyclones in the vicinity of 300 nautical miles from Tutuila this season.
Residents should remember that a single tropical cyclone can devastate a community, and significant damage can occur even without a direct hit, whether from life-threatening weather or perilous seas.
Therefore, the National Weather service strongly encourages residents, visitors and mariners to prepare ahead of the TC season.
