The Department of Homeland Security is alerting businesses and the public about movie prop/counterfeit currency, which seem to be circulating in the territory.
Investigators say that a man walked into the LYC Store in Malaeimi on Tuesday and asked to change three $100 bills. The currency, however, turned out to be movie props.
Homeland Security became aware of the incident through a Facebook post and went to the store to investigate. The store did not report the incident to police or DHS.
During the investigation, it was discovered that on Sunday, a cashier at the same store unknowingly accepted a $100 bill that also turned out to be a movie prop.
Homeland Security Director Samana Semo Veavea says businesses have to report such incidents and the LYC Store is being questioned on why it didn’t report the two incidents.
