The Board of Directors of the LBJ Tropical Medical Center is tight lipped about the employment status of Dr. Akapusi Ledua, who has been replaced as CEO of LBJ Hospital.

Board Chairman Mualeava Dr. Aifili John Tufa declined to comment when contacted.

According to information received by KHJ News, the board has terminated Dr. Ledua’s contract. The Board has also moved to terminate the services of Dr. Jean Anderson who was Chief Operating Officer.

Senior hospital officials said the board has kept information about the reasons for their action under the lid.

Yesterday, the Board Chairman sent a memo to staff announcing that Dr. Aitofele James Sunia, who has been Acting Chief Medical Officer is now appointed Acting CEO until further notice.

Dr. Ledua was selected by the Board as the CEO in July of last year. Before that, he was Acting CEO after the forced resignation of then-CEO Moefaauo William Emmsley in February of last year.

A surgeon, he has served at the LBJ Hospital for 22 years and has been Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff and Chief of Orthopedics.

Dr. Jean Anderson is a previous member of the Hospital Board then became a consultant to the board and later appointed as Executive Director, then named Chief Operating Officer.
