A three-year-old toddler is fighting for his life at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital after sustaining severe head injuries in what is believed to be a domestic violence case involving his parents at Salamumu village.
Samoa Observer says Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logotino Filipo, confirmed that the outpost at Lotofagā, Safata received a report about the case.
He said the investigation is underway, but said there was some difficulty with obtaining information due to the unwillingness of the mother to comment on the incident.
Auapa’au said it appears that the mother is reluctant to speak about what happened and there is reason to believe she is frightened of her husband, who was recently released from jail.
“From our outpost reports this is a domestic (violence) case where the father threw an object towards his wife and struck the baby,” said the Commissioner.
He said no charges have yet been filed, and they have been told by the hospital that they are trying to take the victim overseas for treatment.
The toddler is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.) at the TTM hospital due to life threatening injuries.
